Set up for quality repetitions

Use a mat thick enough to make kneeling and side-lying positions comfortable without feeling unstable. Begin with slow breathing: exhale gently, feel the ribs move down, and keep the pelvis in a comfortable neutral position. You should be able to breathe throughout every exercise.

The four-movement circuit

Complete dead bugs, side planks from the knees or feet, bird dogs, and glute bridges. Work for 30 to 40 seconds per movement, rest for 20 seconds, and repeat the circuit three times. Use fewer repetitions if you need more time to reset your position.

Make each exercise easier or harder

Shorten the lever by bending a knee or keeping an arm closer to the body. To progress, extend the lever, add a pause, or hold a light dumbbell. Progress only when you can keep the ribs, pelvis, and breathing controlled.

What a core workout will not do

This routine can improve trunk strength and exercise technique, but it cannot selectively burn abdominal fat. Pair it with full-body training, regular activity, adequate sleep, and a sustainable eating pattern if body-fat reduction is your goal.

Bottom line

Use this guidance as a framework, then adapt it to your experience, equipment, budget, and health needs. Sustainable choices are the ones you can repeat.
